I was born a Barnes, daughter of Robert. And I have been researching John Barnes, a a very early ancestor who was from Glasgow, Scotland and was “Provost of Glasgow” before coming to what became Pennsylvania with Wm Penn.
Before I knew of this connection with the Friends, I met with them sometime ago north of Amherst MA. Distance discouraged my participation…but I still feel the connection. Kate Barnes Hale

Just wondering how you came to be middle named Barnes? Are you a Barnes descendant? That’s a difficult name to research for this part of the country, meaning the colonial PA area. Would love to hear from you.

Seeking information specific to Evan (1782-1834) and Sidney Ann Lewis (1795-1882) of the American Anti-Slavery Society (1833-) and their son Enoch Lewis (1821-1902)(wife: Charlotte Smith Thorn). Also for Sarah Lewis, who was involved with Philadelphia Anti-Slavery Society (1833-1871). Would appreciate any guidance for archived materials and specific literature. I am a direct ancestor. I have been looking for, but not finding, what is happening statistically and demographically to liberal, progressive, un-programmed Friends. (I really don’t care about the others — they are lost.)

I am willing to do my own research to the best I am able so any suggestions or guidance will be appreciated.
